Wow! You mean about 30 teams got perfect score for the route questions, Mike? What happened, TOS getting soft with their questions? Either that or the master hunters were all in top form after a long break!… hehehe

I was pleasantly surprised to be 1st in the qualifying round of Discover Smiles Treasure Hunt. Surprised because I just make a comeback after not hunting for 10 years and surprised because my partner is my son who is participating for the 1st time.

Me and Theresal was shocked to be in the top 8 also. We just decided to take part on Saturday only. We didn’t really expect it at all. I was really surprised to hear that some masters didn’t make it to the finals. Guess the crossword challenge made a lot difference as I heard some didn’t read the full instructions and stopped after finding 6 words, whereas the words are actually repeated. Guess luck was on our side that day ;-).

Hi there,
Congrats to all the 8 teams. All the best in the finals.
But I’m rooting for my mom and partner - Go Mrs Lim!
Thanks for giving day to day updates on the hunts. Can’t wait to see the results.
Regards,
Tsu Lin

Teams received their first task via email recently. Prepare a 20-30seconds team chant to be performed on one of the event days. This Challenge is worth 10 points, judged on creativity, lyrics, presentation and entertainment value.

In my opinion, not exactly the best way to determine who’s the best. How does one define what is “creative” and “entertainment value”? Were there any definitions provided in those emails, Mike?
Some people are entertained by watching “Bujang Lapuk” by the Lagenda (this legend is probably recognised only in Malaysia), whereas others think it’s a stupid movie.
Some people—including me—are entertained by watching big bully gangsters getting killed fighting with each other because one party thought the other was “looking” at him in a strange way (what the f**k are you looking at!?).

ckoh, forget about this being the kind of hunt as we know it. This will be amazing race and tailored for TV audience. It’s entertainment. Just like there are no tight rules in wrestling.

12.00 noon. Teams are now heading towards Ipoh. They will be stopping at a charity home. They had 1/2 hour walk hunt this morning. One of the event was to pump petrol with the exact amount of RM4.31
ckoh said:
Mike,
Yeah, you have a point there. I keep getting mixed up between treasure hunts and amazing races—especially if they are mixed up together.
Exactly RM4.31, huh? Wow! that’s tough! Better let the gals handle that task. I suppose guys are not to be trusted when it comes to pumping, huh? They have the tendency to overshoot when they’re too excited… hehehe.
I’d really love to know why that exactly amount; why not RM14.31, for example? Must make it a point to watch it on TV!
Keep up the good work in keeping us all informed, Mike!

11am: The last 4 teams standing:
Richard Si and Tommy Ng
Venkateswaran N & Theresal Pereira
Lim Say Chye & Annuar Jeffri
Tan Chee Chiew & Tan Tsiau Way

All 4 teams will start the final round on a clean slate. It’s anyone’s game.
My bet is on Lim Say Chye. We are classmates from way back, and he is one lucky guy. And luck will play a big part in the final of this sort of event.

12.50pm: Teams are on their final stage.
The last time I spoke to one of the finalist was this morning. Now, according to the teams that didn’t make it, the finalists’ phones have been taken away.
I was told, they will not even know the results at tonight’s dinner This is to keep the suspend for the tv show.

Winner: Tan Chee Chiew & Tan Tsiau Way

Congratulations to the Tans. What a sweet victory. Any plans to put the vehicle up on Mike’s “HUNTERS CLASSIFIED” for half price?
Just curious, Mike, did the other 3 finalist teams get anything at all? Would be a shame if they ended up totally empty-handed?

Once the results were in and the treasure chest is opened, Axxon-Mobil announced that they are giving some gifts to the rest 7 teams. We were shocked indeed for there is no mention of it before hunt.
Anyway, the experience is indeed priceless.
