Walao eh! Hunters “R” Us struck back with a vengeance in this hunt, huh? And very convincingly too. Congratulations!

I am itching to see the Q&A (someone email me please!?), especially the Road Safety Qs. I am having trouble to get rid of the smile on my face right now, looking at Y S Khong’s team getting only 2 out of 5? Kok Seng, are you sure you didn’t grade the answers wrongly?… hehehe. Or perhaps “RS” have a different meaning here?

    Dear participants,

On behalf of VBCM, the organisers, a big heartfelt thank you for your support and making it truely a “Gift of Life” for both House of Peace and National Cancer Society of Malaysia.

Also, a special message of “Thank you and God bless” from Audrey & Eddie, the couple who runs House of Peace [ whom almost all participants did not managed to meet at the mid-point control due to time trouble… ;-) ]

Hope that you have all ‘recovered’ from the ‘workout’ [ it was not a walk hunt to Ipoh as some hunters have labelled it to be.. haha ;-P ] and enjoyed the challenge.

A spot of tea with the evil beast?

    Cheers!
    Kok Seng

    dear mike and hunters,

it was a really tough tough hunt. just look at the number of questions dropped by the winners, who are all masters. the champion got three wrong, the first runner-up stumbled at six while the third-place team squandered ten questions!
remember, these are all master teams. so just imagine the harrowing experience that regular and novice teams went through on that day.
this brings to fore the poser: the need to balance the standard of hunts. too easy, it will be a walk in the park for the masters; too hard, it will frighten and shock many teams, especially the rookies. and it will result in them staying away from hunts, which will be a loss to the sport and fraternity. I can almost hear the argument that this is what the masters have gone through to be at what they are today and beginners will have to start from scratch, learn the hard way, spend money and time to learn the art of hunting. granted there is some truth in this argument but i think the crux of the matter is to provide a “level playing field” in hunts.
you don’t throw a lightweight boxer into the ring to face a heavyweight champion, and say that this is part of the learning process etc etc. likewise, hunters of different standards have to be separated of classified.
the problem is how do we do this. there is no official or recognised list of master hunters.
perhaps what can be done is to give handicap. like master teams and those in the same league are given a shorter time say one hour less to complete the hunt compared to the other teams.
aiyo, have to attend to something lah, will continue later…..

rs’s comments have been debated many times before and no solution seems to be in sight, other than placing the onus on the CoC to set a “reasonable” hunt standard for the expected audience.

Personally, if CoC’s could set questions into categories like “Easy”. “Moderate”, “Difficult” and “Nutcases only” and allocate the quantum according to the audience/organisation’s dictates, that would be good enough.

For example, if it it a hunt to expand the fraternity of treasure hunting, allocate 60% Easy, 20% Moderate, 10% Difficult and 10% Nutcases. That way most newbies should be able to get at least 60%.

Of course, don’t set the 10% Nutcase questions as Q 1, 2 or 3. That will surely be a dampener.

As far as Treasure questions go, one tough one will be good enough among the T Qs for the easy hunts but again, this is dependant on the CoC.

I don’t like the fun & games activities as part of a treasure hunt but if the event is not called a motorised treasure hunt, then the organisers definitely can include whatever they deem fit for their event.
