A statement from Mr. Govind Nair
The CoC for the recent NPC- Celcom hunt released this statement today.
Dear Mike,
First and foremost, I apologise for having caused the “spark” that has “fired” up your blog over the results in the Media Category of the NPC-Celcom Hunt.
The points for two treasures were inadvertently missed out when tallying the total points of the “Kereta Buruk” and “Sons of Sun” teams, a mistake which should not have happened. But then it did! I do not believe in giving excuses for what has happened. I also do not think that the NPC should be held responsible in any way. The announced winners of the hunt should not be blamed for anything as well. They did nothing wrong. I take full responsibility for the mistake.
With the 10 points added on, Kereta Buruk (with 99 points) are now the first prize winner of the Media Category and Sons of Sun (with 95 points) are the second prize winner. Both the teams have exercised patience and understanding in allowing me to arrive at a fair decision. I contacted both teams Thursday and have rewarded them for their victory.
Accordingly, the winners of the Media Category are as follows:
1. Kereta Buruk - 99 points
2. Sons of Sun - 95 points
3. Blur Squad - 94 points
4. MiB - 93 points
5. Close One Eye - 90 points
6. Stowaways - 85 points
7. Heritage Media - 75 points
8. OddBalls - 74 pointsI hope you will post this statement on your blog to clear the air and bring the matter to rest. Thank you.
Warm regards,
Govind Nair
COC, NPC-Celcom Media Treasure Hunt 2008

Some questions:
1. Were the 2 teams awarded with the prize money?
2. if so, did the money come from Govind’s pocket? or from NPC?
3. Did the announced winners had to return the prize money?

Fair and square , it matters not to you now for it has been settled by the CoC and the affected teams.

I really admire Govind’s Sincerity and the patient of the top two teams that was affected.

Congratulations to the two teams. Well done. Cheers.

Shame on all dishonest winners. Where was the spirit of sportsmanship and friendship. Govind WAS your friend. According to some media friends Govind coughed out RM10,000 from his own pocket to compensate the real winners. It would not have happened if the fake winners were honest and sincere and returned the prizes and claimed what were theirs. This was the second controversies involving media category. In the Pertama category someone switched the prizes to make sure someone related to someone took home the prizes. Shame on you again to whom that was. The dishonest teams should be ashamed if they ever take part in hunt where Govind is the COC.

To Sons of Suns
I salute you for returning part of the prize money to Govind.
Govind dug into his pocket and paid RM4,000 to the Sons of the Suns (the real runnersup and not the dishonest MiB).
Sons of the Suns returned RM2,000 back to Govind. Once again we salute you.

sorry mike.
i tried to be nice, very nice. but my patience has run out with these so-called highly principled and highly-moralled people hiding behind pseudonyms.
for all you cowards hiding behind pseudonyms and hurling accusations: please just shut up if you dont have the guts to identify yourselves. you are just cowards. you are the ones who are not gentlemen.
and also please shut up because you dont know what is being done to rectify things. no one owes you an explanation.
ppl like “nora”, “teoh” and “man in white”: you know who i am. i dare you to call me names and accuse me of CHEATING in my face. Then we shall see who is right or wrong. Not by cowardly acts of abusing mike’s blog.
In your own words:
Be gentlemen!!! Shame on you!!! Show yourselves!!!
My apologies to Mike again.
p.s. this is my personal comment, not my team’s.

Dear Hunters and COC’s,
Hi. My name is Raj Kumar (aka Captain Jack Swallow)
I have been reading this with great concern and feel greatly for the Hunters and the Clerk Of Course involved in the predicament.
I do not know Govind personally neither have we met or talked over the phone before.
My dear Hunters, mistakes do happen during the course of preparing for the Hunt, execution of the Hunt and marking odf the Hunt.We are after all human.
I really do know how difficult it would have been for Mr Govind to fork out money (whether through his personal capacity or through a different channel).
But Hunts are supposed to be fun, right? And all those taking part in the Hunt on that day just wanted to have a good time and try to win some prizes, right?
However at the end of the day (and I mean as of now),Mr Govind has taken the bull by the horn and paid off the aggrieved parties their proper dues, right?
Now, who is the one feeling despondednt and dissillusioned right now?I am sure it’s Mr Govind Nair. After all that hard work in organising the Hunt, not only is he having a depleted bank account,he is also feeling that “hunts have no meaning to him anymore” especially after so much of brickbats were hurled at him.
An opportunity presents itself for all the Hunters in Malaysia today.
I would like to propose, with Mr Govind’s consent of course, that all Hunters be given an opportunity to start a fund to repay the COC whatever extra money he has had to fork out by contributing RM 5 into Mr Govind’s account. Any Hunter who feels that this is a golden chance to tide over all the bad feelings and place the COC back to a neutral financial position
can contribute RM5.
Mr Govind, my suggestion is that,in the instance that you receive more than what you (or the organisers)have forked out, kindly do us a favour by giving us a better goodie bag for your future Hunts(say petrol vouchers…).
Hunters of Malaysia, this is only a suggestion and a one-off thing (since there has been so much written on it).Let’s spread the feel good factor on this wonderful day by doing a great deed to make another life feel better. It was a genuine mistake (no hidden agendas) and the COC has taken pains to right the wrong.
Happy Merdeka!

Hi, I seldom come into this blog except when I need to know the next hunt I can participate in. I’m a coc but still hunting whenever time permits.
Anyway this particular blog on the NPC really interest me, and I followed the proceedings. Because I participated in the hunt and also because I’m a coc myself.
Yes, I too did errors in tabulations a couple of times before in open hunts. To err is human. And I did forked out from my pocket to compensate the effected teams. But both times only a couple of hundreds or so.
But Govind have to dig for 10K!??
Dear hunters, please feel for Govind. I know him personally and had gone on a few hunts of his. Never did he made errors that affected the positions of teams. I don’t know what happened this time around. C’mon hunters, 10K is way too much. Just think of the large chunk of his savings vanished with a blink of the eye.
Capt Swallow, let’s pass the hat around. Give an account no.
Mike, hope you don’t mind I use your blog to help another coc.
Hunters are “one for all, all for one”.

Dear All…Congratulations Govind for a job well done. It was a rather unfortunate incident which was blown out of proportion. Anyway, we sincerely look forward to more hunts from your goodself.
For those who have called Blurr Squad “Pariahs” and other names, I dont really have much to say to you all. Whatever was decided between Govind and my team on how this matter is to be resolved is none of your business.
As far as we are concerned, we have nothing to be embarassed about and nothing “Pariatic” in our behaviour. In future, and if you really want to know what transpired between Govind and ourselves, don’t hesitate to call me.
My dear “Teoh”, “Nora” and the great “Man in White”, my number is 012-6836404. So, if you think you want to call any of my team-mates a “Pariah” or any other word in future, please gimme a call!
Once again, Kudos to you Govind and to the first and second winners, Congrats and hope you will support our upcoming I-KWAN Zoom Hunt.
Thank you all and Good Luck!

allow me to join this discourse.
coc govind has owned up to a grave error which has caused distress and embarassment to many parties. including the NPC, sponsors, announced winners and the actual winning teams in the media category. the question here is should he pay for the mistake?
my answer is yes. it is not my intention to be mean, but in any mistake, the party committing it must shoulder the responsibility and face whatever repercussions, even if that means coughing up huge sums of money. in organisations or companies, employees guilty of making costly mistakes are sometimes even sacked.
severe penalties are the best deterrent against sloppiness. i think govind has learnt his lesson and would be very very careful when clerking future hunts. i am sure other cocs have also learnt something from this episode. cocs must strive to attain zero-error hunts. this will make suggestions like having a cooling-off period irrelevant. i believe we must adhere to the policy that “coc’s decision is final”, thus the onus of a “perfect” hunt should rest completely and absolutely on the coc’s shoulders, failing which he will be severely penalised, not only money-wise but also in terms of reputation.
in short, the hunt fraternity should refrain from “bailing out” troubled cocs if we wish to see a higher standard of professionalism among cocs and organisers.
