Update: 11.53pm
Just got back from a boy band concert. Our teeny boppers can really scream non stop for over 3 hours! My ears are ringing right now.
Today’s hunt. I predicted that there would be some sort of games/challenges for this hunt and true enough today we had to identify 10 leaves at the end of the hunt. And because teams were more or less equal on route questions, this little task has had an impact on the final placings you see above. I don’t know how much impact because the breakdowns were not provided. Maybe just one position up or down at most for a few teams. Anyhow, at least the task were not luck base this time around.
Overall it was a good hunt. A few interesting questions and treasures. Briefing, flag-off and answer presentation were all on time. The only thing is, it was really a poor choice of route and questions sectors. The roads were congested this morning and I think we spend no less than 60minutes in total getting stucked in traffic.
This hunt had the potential to be a huge hunt but it didn’t. Only 11 teams hunted today. With the backing of various government agencies and the organiser being a grouping of NGOs, one would thought that they would not have problem getting the numbers. If only each of the NGOs in the “gabungan” send 5 teams, they would have easily gotten 30/40 teams. So what happened here? I wonder how much they collected for the Gaza cause?
Charis Hospice is a charitable organization that provides free medical support home care services to patients with advanced illness. This service is provided to patients in Penang island, irrespective of race or religion. Services are provided by a eam of trained professionals (doctor and nurses) and volunteers.
The Hunt will be based on the Heritage sites of Georgetown and surrounding areas. A map will be given indicating all relevant roads that lead to these sites. Hunters will have to crack the clues identifying the roads. Then the remaining clues are related to the sites and site features.
CoC: Jayaram Menon
Your entry fees of RM400 per team will go directly to running the hospice.

Pira a fairly new hunter has been looking for members from within his circle of friends but no one seems to be interested. At last year’s theSun Hunt, in a team of only 2members, they achieved a commendable 90th position out of over 200 participating teams.
“ I want to actually form a team with people with some experience but not veterans to build a strong team. I am looking for two team members who are committed to join my team with the goal of doing well in the Sun Motor hunt.
“That person must be committed with us for at least one year. He/She must share the same goals, passion and commitment. My name is Pira and my contact is 012-321 2841″
There are a few successful teams out there today which started just like this. So if you are the kind of hunter, Pira is looking for, get in touch with him immediately and start that great journey to the top.
The whole of yesterday evening and this morning, this site was not accessible. Traffic to this site has more than doubled in recent months and yesterday it finally exceeded the monthly data transfers allowed under my current package. As a temporary measure I’ve since purchased additional bandwidth and will upgrade the whole hosting package soon.

It was a good hunt, pretty much what was expected from team like HrU. Kudos and thank you for all the effort in putting together the hunt with no other incentive other than the love and passion for the sport. The questions were of a very high standard and I think the regulars really appreciate and applaud the few ingenious ones. Of course true to Hunters r Us, (HrU) there were also those 5 to 6 levels question which was never meant to be solve in the first place.
While overall it was good, looking at the results I’m not sure if they have achieve the various lofty goals that they set out to achieved. One of it was to encourage new hunters to fall in love with the sports. For that they came out and said that they have tuned the hunt to suit all levels. Yet generally everyone including the very best hunters agreed that it was a super tough hunt. And the results show. Only 3 teams out of the total 30 teams barely achieved more than 50% of the total points. Mid way during the hunt, my team keep asking “where are the easy questions? “where are the easy questions”. A veteran hunter said that this type of hunt is only suitable to the annual “cny hunt” referring to the by invitation only, “no holds barred” hunt for regulars during chinese new year. And yet another regular hunter hit the nail on the head when he said that “this hunt may just be the final nail in the coffin for newer hunters”
Next, timing. Again we were assured that the 4.5hours is 30 minutes more than what it should be. The reality is only 3 grand slammer teams came in on time (my team was 1 of the 3) at the cost of dropping all 6 questions towards the end. Ok, maybe we are all very bad at managing our time.
After submitting our papers, we thought we will try and see if we were given the controversial one hour extra, would it have make any difference? So we went out again and we only manage to get one additional answer!
These are the 2 areas which I thought the CoCs have misjudged. Being a CoC myself, I can understand how easy it is to misjudge the level of difficulty and the time needed. CoC starts crafting their questions from the answers and from that point of view all answers seem easy and solvable.
Now, every CoC is free to pitch their hunts in what ever way they like. They don’t have to follow a set formula. So having said all the above I don’t mean to say that HrU is wrong. I’m merely reviewing the 2 areas vis-a vis to their publically stated goals for this particular hunt. If moving forward HrU chooses to be known as a CoC with tough questions and tight timing, so be it. Nothing’s wrong with that.
One area of improvement that I think HrU can look into is the presentation of answers. I’m not sure why or if they even realise that they were rushing through with the explanations. There were a few, especially the tougher ones which we simply can’t follow. If this is to be where the newer hunters learn than I think the steps leading to the answers should be very slowly and clearly explained with pauses long enough in case some hunters have questions. But like I said maybe there was a reason for it, like they have booked the room up to certain hour only.
This morning my team met up as early as 6.30am and soon many more hunters joined us at the mamak shop. The topic of the morning and jokes were centered on the one hour extra time. I love what one experienced hunter whose team is entitle to the extra one hour said ” I feel offended to be given the extra one hour”
All in all, we must congratulate HrU for the courage to try new things like the new recognition system, the controversial handicaps etc. Like all things new, there will be challenges. The push for changes were too drastic. It will be awhile before hunters warm up to them and today’s hunt is a good start in that direction.
